Moisture is a main factor is corrosion processes and electronic failures. By lowering the humidity, the corrosion speed can be reduced and in some cases corrosion can even be halted. Electronic equipment will show less electronic failures in a dry environment. Also, a low humidity will prevent fungus, mould and condensation. In the military environment dehumidifiers can be used on active as well as stored equipment.
Storage: Maintenance intervals can be lengthened, resulting in considerable savings in main storage costs. The equipment can be deployed immediately, and in some case even be placed back without additional maintenance activity.
Active: The MTBF of equipment is lengthened considerably (vehicles, aircraft, ships, radar systems, communication equipment, etc.). The amount of CND’s (Could Not Duplicate) or NFF’s (No Fault Found) will decrease. Due to the introduction of COTS electronics, humidity control is a very important factor.
