NIDV in the market The Netherlands Industries for Defence and Security (NIDV, Netherlands Industries for Defence and Security) promotes optimal involvement of the Netherlands industry with respect to procurements and assignments of the Ministry of Defence. However the NIDV does not limit its search for good business opportunities to the Netherlands, the Association is also active in markets emerging from co-operation between governments and in markets resulting from participation and offset contracts. The Netherlands defence market has a turnover of two billion euro a year.
NIDV, for whom? The NIDV is open to any company located in the Netherlands that develops, produces or maintains products for, or delivers services to the Ministry of Defence. Additionally, Netherlands institutes, including the Netherlands Organisation for applied Scientific Research (TNO) and the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), engaged in research and development related to Defence are part of the target group. The NIDV is a non-profit organisation financed by yearly contributions from its members.
NIDV activities The NIDV as ambassador The NIDV represents its members. The opinions, interests and capabilities of the members are presented as efficiently and effectively as possible to the Netherlands government, politicians and the media. The association is in daily contact with the armed forces and consults members of Parliament on a regular basis. When matters of mutual interest in the defence industry need to be addressed, the NIDV collectively takes action on behalf of its members and other national trade organisations. The NIDV acts as mediator between governments, politicians, institutes and industry.
The NIDV supports The NIDV supports its members with their marketing efforts. The association detects yearly more than a thousand defence projects in the Netherlands and abroad. New projects are announced individually. The members have 24 hours access to the NIDV database through the NIDV-extranet (called “NIDV-NET”) on the internet and have the possibility to gain extensive information about all known projects. To serve its members better, the NIDV also maintains a database of important contacts in the field of defence procurements at an operational and policy level.
The NIDV mediates The NIDV mediates between foreign companies with an offset commitment and Netherlands companies. The NIDV also co-ordinates this with the Cluster Military Production (CMP) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Additionally, members are brought to the attention of foreign companies that call for tenders in the Netherlands.
The NIDV stimulates The NIDV in particular supports small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in contacting national and international contractors and potential Netherlands suppliers. In the way the NIDV stimulates the involvement of SMEs in the production of defence materiel. The NIDV as a knowledge centre The NIDV is a knowledge centre with extensive experience and excellent contacts in the world of military systems for the navy, army, air force and military police. The NIDV office consists of a team of professionals, all with a technical industrial or governmental (defence) background.
NIDV Meetings On a regular basis the NIDV organises meetings for its members to discuss special topics. The topics vary greatly, from presenting project information to bidder’s conferences. Participating companies have the opportunity to present themselves at such meetings. Additionally, each year a symposium is organised with speakers form the Netherlands as well as abroad sharing their views on developments in the defence market place. Parallel to the symposium an exhibition, the ‘promo square’, serves as an opportunity for the industry to present their newest products and services. The symposium offers a unique meeting place for persons with interests in defence including government, politics and industry.
Technology platforms
For a few technology areas, the NIDV provides additional opportunities for industrial co-operation through the instruments of Technology Platforms. At this moment these platforms are: - the Netherlands Industrial Simulator Platform (NISP) - the Command and Control Technology Platform (C2TP) - the Netherlands Industrial Fighter Aircraft Replacement Platform (NIFARP) - the Netherlands Industrial Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Platform (NIMUP) - the Nederlandse Marinebouw Cluster(Netherlands Naval Construction Cluster) (NMC) These Platforms consist of members from industry and research establishments and they provide the Ministry of Defence the possibility of information exchange. The Platforms are meeting places for its members. Additionally, the Platforms offer the opportunity to create optimal commercial co-operation between two or more members. Publications
Almanac The Almanac lists al NIDV members with their company profile. Additionally, it provides an overview of the structure, policy, procedures, and organisation of the Netherlands Ministry of Defence and other defence related organisations. The Almanac is published yearly (in Dutch).
News Bulletin A quarterly News Bulletin informs members about the development of international co-operation projects. The Bulletin also provides other information, for example, political and economical developments within the defence industry and reorganisations within governmental organisations. The activities of the Technology Platforms are mentioned in the Bulletin as well. |
